Eligibility for Clinical Services

Potential clients who may receive services through the UCMHC include University of Utah students and adult community members living within the State of Utah. With the flexibility offered through telehealth services, clients are not required to reside within Salt Lake County but must be within the State of Utah at the time of their therapy session.

The UCMHC supports clients with a full range of concerns, including relationship or family concerns, depressed mood, anxiety, stress, coping with physical/developmental disabilities or medical illnesses, academic difficulties, adjustment issues, life transitions, interpersonal conflict/social concerns, grief, sexual orientation/identity issues, career development, homelessness, under/unemployment, and poverty.

Because clinician training is the primary focus of the UCMHC, the type of services we can provide is limited based on available competencies, resources, and other professional and ethical considerations. The UCMHC reserves the right to determine the appropriateness and availability of services for any and all clients.

Clients requiring specialized treatment, long term care, or deemed to be more likely to have their needs best addressed elsewhere will be referred to community resources. Examples of primary presenting concerns that may be referred out to community providers include: severe eating disorders, high suicidal risk, psychosis, homicidal ideation, and substance abuse .
